Everyone has low back pain at some point of time in their life. Back pain is of several types varying from a persistent ache to sharp spikes of pain making it hard for a person to move from one to another place. It is often triggered by motions that suddenly put pressure on your back such as lifting heavy objects, falling down etc. If an individual does not get an effective treatment for back pain on time, it may get worse on time. Besides, when you are obese or you get older, the risk associated with back pain tremendously rises. Most back pain goes on its own in few days or weeks. However, if back pain lasts for more than three months, it is called chronic back pain.

Low back pain has become more prevalent in the last few years. The low back supports the weight of the body and helps in body movements such as bending and twisting. The muscles present in low back support the spinal column. Lower back pain is often caused due to muscle strain, herniated disks, arthritis and more. Mechanical and soft tissue injuries also often cause pain in the low back and surrounding areas. These injuries may include intervertebral discs, compression of nerve roots etc.

Before the treatment for back pain, the doctor asks about patient history including information about current symptoms, activity level, sleep habits, posture, injuries etc. Once the doctor accurately diagnose the cause of the lower back pain. They select the treatment options based upon it. At the initial stages, it can be treated with ice/heat, stretching, a back brace, and more. In most of the cases, these natural ways gradually help to reduce back pain. Self-care treatments for back pain usually don’t need guidance from doctor, but they should be used carefully and attentively. Also, one must consider the fact that any kind of medication carries possible risks and side effects, so it is better to consult doctor before taking pain killers for back pain. When it comes curing low back pain, alternative treatment and non-surgical methods are proven to be more safe and effective options such as message therapy, chiropractic treatment, manual manipulation etc.

Manual manipulation

A chiropractor use his skills to make manual adjustments to the spine, so as to reduce the stiffness and improve mobility. They use hand thrusts of varying speed and force applied to spinal structures with motto to reduce back pain. It has proven to be safe and effective in treatment for back pain, treatment for neck pain, treatment for arm pain etc.

Massage therapy

Massage therapy is applied by skilled massage therapists to relive the muscle spasms that contribute to low back pain. It also increases the blood flow to the low back, so the nutrients and oxygen reach the damaged muscles rapidly and it eventually fastens the healing process. It is also an effective treatment for neck pain and arm pain.

Spinal decompression

Spinal decompression treatment is non-surgical treatment for chronic back pain. It is usually gentle and least invasive of all medical procedures. It is traction therapy applied to spine to trigger two important effects:

  • It is focused on creating negative intradiscal pressure to promote retraction or of the herniated or bulging disc material.
  • It creates a lower pressure on disc, so as to cause an influx of healing nutrients and other substances into the disc.

Alternative therapies have proven to be very effective in reliving back pain, even in chronic cases. However, one must look for skilled and trained therapists to get right, safe and effective treatment.
